I think there was a lot of hype and anticipation surrounding the Rep JA Riddim. If you know anything about Caribbean fashion, then you know about Rep JA. Rep JA is known for being a ‘Caribbean street wear brand’. With the release of their Summer 2012 Collection, the Rep JA riddim saw much buzz online and within the Caribbean community worldwide.

I was fortunate enough to hear ‘Irene‘ by Dre a few days before the official release of the Rep JA Riddim on July 24, 2012. I am seriously a Dre fan but I think you can judge from my features that I try to be as objective as possible when featuring artistes that I love or who are ‘well-known’ so not as to provide a biased review. But JAH KNOW ‘Irene ah di boss ah Mobay‘ – Lyrically Dre sweets me just about every single that he releases! There is always some line that he has written that resonates with me and is etched into my memory.

Another previous feature on #then1989 in Laza Morgan, who has a big record on this riddim, in my opinion as well. ‘We Rep JA‘ is definitely a song that can be added to the Celebrate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence playlist. Laza paints for me a vivid picture of life in Jamaica, not that I have ever visited the island before but I think some of the visions Laza portrays through his lyrics definitely help me to ‘fantasize’ about my premiere visit to the Island.

Now I had NO CLUE who Untitled was before I began this review but because I refuse to misinform you all, especially if I have not done any research, I decided to find out who Untitled was. JAH KNOW I REP THEM NOW! I absolute LOVE ‘Do It‘ & the Kardinal Offishall feature sweets me all the same too! Another new artiste on the riddim that I fell in love with was India Shawn, her record ‘Love Me‘ has a smooth lover’s rock feel to it. ‘The One‘ by Blacka was a surprising edition to the riddim, I had no clue that Blacka recorded vocals, I knew him as Di Danca. But I still love the song same way. Finally, my last favorite on this riddim is Gyptian’s ‘Skin To Skin‘ – definitely been a fan of Gyptian’s since those ‘Beautiful Lady‘ days. He has dabbled in some riddims that were not lover’s rock infused but he brings it back with this track on the Rep JA Riddim.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the sounds of the tunes featured on the Rep JA Riddim produced by Rep JA Records. The riddim mix was done by @DJ_Kaos of Adrenalin Sounds. Check out his other mixes via #SoundCloud or #PodOmatic and be sure to follow him on Twitter to find out when he releases new mixes.
