Good Love by Destra

Now, it’s not every day that you see a new video from Destra Garcia! If you know anything about Soca music – Destra is one artiste whose name you think of when you first think of the genre that originated out of Trinidad & Tobago. Summer time is THE perfect time for Carnival styled outfits, the more skin the better! Destra roots are embedded in Calypso and Soca music. Her father is an accomplished guitarist, Lloyd Garcia and her late grandfather, Frankie Garcia was an island jazz musician. Destra discovered her passion for singing and music whilst she was in secondary school. She joined a music group called PSYKE but the group ultimately disbanded after only one year. Since the group’s disbandment Destra has gone on to create beautiful Calypso/Soca music all on her own!

This music video for ‘Good Love‘ is pretty sweet. I’ve been rinsing the World Wide Riddim since we first aired it on the Dancehall Now Show earlier this year. Destra’s feature on the riddim was a surprise to me – whenever I think of Destra, I automatically think Soca music, Bacchanallist vybz and such! Not that I did not appreciate her tune on this riddim, I love me some Destra! Her sound on this riddim is a turn from what she is known for but it is still a great progression for Destra, same way. She has shown that since the birth of her first child in 2010, she is not stopping her creation of great music. The video treatment for this record is not exactly what I was expecting, yes the relationship between Destra and her beau – I expected – but for him to be all in the streets and such, not what I was thinking. But I do respect that dynamic to the video because it shows that there are not always great times in the relationship, yes you may be so in love with the person. Be careful who you love though, because you never know when they may spring something unexpected on you that  you was not prepared for.

Do enjoy watching Destra’s video for ‘Good Love’ off the World Wide Riddim which was produced by Fresh Ear Productions. The video story was created by Jeandelle Edwards and Anthony Edwards. The video was directed by Cowin Dori Thorpe.

Support Destra by following him on Twitter, @DestraGarcia, and keeping in contact with him to find out what is going on with him musically.
